Having previously written to the Government calling for tariff free access to be maintained, as the vast majority of coaches are imported from the EU, the CPT has responded to the recent publication of the UK’s revised no deal tariff schedule.
Confederation of Passenger Transport Chief Executive Graham Vidler said: “It is disappointing that the Government has chosen to maintain temporary tariffs on the import of new coaches and buses in the event of a no deal Brexit. This will result in increased costs for operators who want to upgrade their fleets to newer, cleaner models and the Government has missed an opportunity to ensure coach and bus operators can continue to contribute to improving air quality. We will continue to push the Government to ensure that any permanent tariff regime does not impose extra costs on coach and bus operators seeking to upgrade their fleets.”
