An AEC RT with a difference made its long-awaited post-restoration debut at this year’s successful Ensign Vintage Running Day, reports Nick Larkin, but only just

A last minute effort ensured that BDJ607, dating from 1952, and one of 40 RTs delivered to St Helens Corporation in two batches, was ready in time for the event. These Park Royal H30/26R-bodied buses were to the exact same specification as their legendary London Transport equivalents down to the destination layout and interior moquette. The bus has undergone a two-year restoration by Ensign and is now back in its red and cream St Helens livery. “It was finished just in time. We were fixing a fuel pipe on the morning of the event,” Ensign Director Steve Newman revealed.
