Wrightbus has secured a repeat order from Go Ahead London, which will see 23 new two-door StreeLites joining a fleet of nine single-door examples in the fleet.
All of the new vehicles – all Door Forward variants – are set to be in service by May 2013 on three routes. Two of these will run out of Northumberland Park (Route Nos. 327 and 491) and one from Merton Garage (Route No. 219).
The Door Forward version of StreetLite follows in the footsteps of the 8.8m single door, ‘Wheel Forward’ variants originally supplied to Go Ahead London in 2011. It shares the same Cummins 4 cylinder iSBE EEV Euro 5 engine, matched to the Voith DIWA gearbox with integral hydrodynamic retarder.
In the two-door TfL specification guise, a StreetLite can accommodate up to 71 passengers with seating configured for 31 or 35 seats, dependent upon vehicle lengths (10.2 or 10.8m).
Steve Jackson, National Accounts Manager for Wrightbus said: “It’s a lightweight powertrain and our own design independent front suspension system and innovative use of composite materials combine to make StreetLite ‘mean and lean’ in a market segment which is a very weight and value sensitive.”
Go Ahead’s Group Engineering Director, Phil Margrave, added: “Our experience to date with the first batch of vehicles has been very favourable in terms of passenger and driver reaction, in-service performance and reliability.”
