Two former Hartlepool Transport buses are being returned to the road after more than 25 years in storage, to help preserve the operator’s history, reports Nick Larkin
BEF28C is a 1965 Roe-boded Leyland PD2, the sole survivor of 20 examples of these vehicles new to West Hartlepool Corporation from 1956 to 1965.
Withdrawn from normal service around 1980, BEF28C was retained for some years before being sold to Eastern Scottish as a driver trainer in the mid-1980s. The second bus, ECW-bodied Bristol RE, LEF60H, is the oldest survivor of 58 examples delivered to Hartlepool Borough Transport. The bus was bought from Stagecoach for preservation in 1995, and is celebrating its 50th birthday in 2020.
