One of Arriva’s most recognisable and historic depots recently starred in ITV detective drama Vera – along with one of its vehicles. Angela Youngman tells the story
A grade 2 listed building complete with distinctive columns, the Arriva depot at Jesmond, Northumberland is quite eyecatching – which explains why it has now been featured on national TV! Viewers of the popular TV detective programme Vera, starring actress Brenda Blethyn, will have noticed that the latest series includes scenes on sky blue buses, and within a depot with an imposing frontage.
Kevin Richardson, Operations Manager at Jesmond explained how it all came about: “I was just sitting in my office working last summer when a young lady suddenly popped in and said she was scouting out locations for Vera on ITV. They were interested in using the depot for filming and how did I feel about it? I said yes, it sounds good but I need to discuss it with various people in the company.
