In January, Daimler Buses signed a large order for 500 city buses for Morocco. The customer is Spanish bus company Alsa, which is part of the National Express Group and has been operating bus routes in Morocco since 1999.
The order comprises 420 Mercedes-Benz Conecto rigid buses and 80 of the articulated Mercedes-Benz Conecto G version. The order includes 150 buses which have been purchased on behalf of the L’ECI Al Baida transport authority in Casablanca. The vehicles will be to Euro VI emissions standards, and will be used in the city of Casablanca where they will serve to renew the present fleet. The city buses will be produced at Daimler Buses’ Turkish plant and will be delivered throughout 2020.
After making its Moroccan market debut in 2019 with more than 100 Mercedes-Benz Conecto buses for the country’s capital Rabat, this is the second major order for the German manufacturer, which says that the deliveries underline its strategic growth aims and its desire to conquer new markets, and thus further strengthen its global market presence. In line with this, Daimler has Regional Centres, established in 2015, such as the Regional Centre for North Africa, which guarantee close customer proximity in Sales and Service. The supply of these city buses also increases the environmental friendliness of public transport in Morocco, says Daimler, whilst also demonstrating the contribution which Daimler Buses is making towards its overarching sustainability target of making cities around the world a better place to live.
