Cityzap and Witchway passengers to benefit from a new 19 vehicle order for vehicles built in the North of England by Alexander Dennis
Transdev has confirmed a £5.3m order for new ADL Enviro400s built to its own unique specification.
The order for 19 buses will see the first new buses taking to the roads of Yorkshire and Lancashire in September. 14 of the new vehicles will enter service on Transdev’s Witchway service, linking Burnley and Rawtenstall with Manchester every 15 minutes – with the remaining five destined for its fast Cityzap route between York and Leeds.
Transdev CEO Alex Hornby said: “We’re thrilled again to be investing in new buses, which will deliver an advanced level of customer experience on two of our most popular brands, helping us to continue growing our share of the overall travel market into our local cities across the north. We will show that by creating buses that people will be proud to be seen on, we can offer the right solution needed to help reduce harmful emissions and congestion.
“Already, 40% of customers travelling with us on Cityzap are new to buses, having switched from the train or the car, and these amazing new buses will help us to build on that. This major investment will also see the Witchway receiving its fourth batch of brand-new buses in 20 years.”
Each of the new buses will be powered by Cummins 6.7 litre Euro VI engines, delivering full compliance with Greater Manchester’s Clean Air Zone a year in advance of its planned introduction in 2021. The new vehicles will also fully comply with tougher emission standards in Leeds, due to be implemented later this year.
ADL Chief Executive, Colin Robertson CBE, said: “We are delighted that Transdev has chosen Alexander Dennis to design and build another fleet of amazing buses for the North, and we look forward to working with the Transdev team to deliver Britain’s best-selling double-deck bus in a unique specification that will be sure to delight customers.”
Transdev says key features which are already proving popular on its fleet of 13 ADL Enviro200 single deck buses, launched in January on The Blackburn Bus Company’s route 1 between Blackburn, Darwen and Bolton, will form part of its latest interior design which is inspired by customer research.
he operator confirmed the vehicle will offer free WiFi, USB and wireless charging for mobile devices, audio-visual next stop announcements and double glazing throughout.
