Reays Coaches of Wigton, Cumbria has taken the decision to lay off a number of employees as a consequence of the lack of work currently available.

In a letter sent to the affected employees, the firm’s HR Administrator Sue Gardham wrote: “With effect from Monday 23 March, our business is essentially at standstill.

“We understandably have no inbound tour work, schools are closing until further notice, and there is no demand for any private hire work as people’s travel is significantly constrained.

“We have been forced to take the difficult decision to terminate your employment based on there being no work to perform.

“We would like to reassure you that we will constantly monitor the situation, and in the event that work starts to return, we would like to think that we could reach out to you with a view to looking to offer employment with us.”

CBW has reached out to Reays for further details on the situation, although at the time of going to press no response had been received.
