Bus drivers and support teams from Go North East (GNE) wore red white and blue, and fancy dress, over the bank holiday weekend to spread some cheer and commemorate the 75th anniversary of VE Day.

A wide range of outfits were to be seen, including bus drivers Michelle Penfold and Sue Hollingsworth dressed as Wonder Woman, whilst fellow driver Scott Gilmour took thingsa stage further by dressing as Geri Halliwell from the Spice Girls, complete with the infamous Union flag dress.

Staff at Go North East wore red white and blue or fancy dress to help mark VE Day.

Go North East’s bus drivers also took part in the two-minute silence on VE Day, where safe to do so on their routes, and were joined by key workers and essential travellers in honouring the service and sacrifice of the Second World War generation.

Martijn Gilbert, GNE Managing Director, said: “It was great to see so many colleagues across the company take part in commemorating the 75th anniversary of VE Day. Our friendly hard-working team set out to help put some smiles back on people’s faces during this crisis, and something as simple as wearing red, white and blue provided some much-needed cheer to the bank holiday weekend in a time where things can feel very repetitive.”
