Preservation Group and registered charity Friends of King Alfred Buses (FoKAB) says that it is in sudden and urgent need of new accommodation for many of its unique collection of Winchester buses, and has issued an appeal for help supporters and enthusiasts with an interest in supporting this unique part of the city’s heritage.
The group was forced to cancel its well-known The Original King Alfred Buses Running Day, planned for early May, which acts as a vital fund-raiser for the FoKAB, helping to keep its fleet of historic vehicles on the road, the oldest of which is now 89 years old.
The group is now faced with another challenge, having been unexpectedly asked to quit the location outside the city where many of its vehicles have been safely accommodated for the best part of 20 years by the end of 2020.
In order to keep the fleet together, the group is seeking an undercover site near Winchester. To store them away from the city, it says, would seriously hinder or even prevent the ability to stage events recreating the days of King Alfred Motor Services in Winchester.
FoKAB is keen to hear from anyone who knows of a site that might be suitable – via email to [email protected] or by contacting David Morgan, Hon Secretary, on 01737 823436.
