Pilkington Bus says it has invested over £250,000 in its headquarters in the past 12 months and announced a raft of investments across the firm. The company has modernised its Accrington headquarters, spending £160k on a new workshop building plus an additional £40k to modernise its yard, and the same again on facilities including a new digital fuel supply system with WiFi connectivity. A further £9,000 has seen on new pit jacks installed to help with vehicle maintenance.
The family firm says it is 100% committed to creating a Covid-safe environment for its customers, keeping vehicles clean and tidy and introducing contactless payment systems.
In addition, the company has also taken on 12 new staff. Alan Pilkington, owner and Managing Director of Pilkington Bus, commented: “We’re determined to be the first choice for getting around Accrington and the surrounding area, and we take the job very seriously indeed. For over 50 years we’ve been getting the town’s kids to school, employees to work, and shoppers to the high street. Catching a bus is the best way to get around. Our vehicles are clean, Covid-safe, and they’re much more environmentally friendly than everyone taking their own car. One of our buses effectively takes 80 cars off the road, and best of all you don’t have to drive.”
The company recently gained a significant £3m contract from Lancashire County Council (LCC), with whom it has worked since 1979.
