342 vehicles belonging to bus operator First Hampshire, Dorset and Berkshire will be paying tribute to Captain Sir Tom Moore OBE who died on Tuesday 2 February after contracting coronavirus. The vehicles in the fleet will be carrying ‘Thanks, Sir Tom!’ on the front of the bus as a tribute to the man who raised more than £32 million for NHS Charities Together by walking 100 laps of his garden in Marston Moretaine in Bedfordshire last year during the first lockdown.
Simon Goff, Head of Operations First Hampshire, Dorset and Berkshire said: “From Wednesday, our vehicles will be carrying ‘Thanks Sir Tom!’ as a sign of respect to the man who won the country’s hearts at a time the nation was straining under the pressure of the pandemic. Our drivers came up with the idea, and we think this modest yet powerful gesture is a fitting tribute to Captain Sir Tom. And on the day of his funeral, our drivers will observe a minute’s silence, as remembrance to pause and reflect on Sir Tom and how the simplest of gestures can have great effect.”
