Passenger journeys saw an encouraging improvement in the last week of March according to the latest survey of bus operators who are part of the Ten Per Cent Club. Fare paying passengers on commercial services recovered to 49% of normal expectations, its figures showed: an improvement from 33% in February and 25% in January, and one which brings patronage back to almost the same levels experienced during the four week lockdown in November 2020.
Fare paying passengers on local authority tendered routes saw an even greater recovery from 22% of normal in February to 42% in March. Concessionary pass holders made only slightly more journeys in March at 34% on commercial services and 28% of normal on tendered routes, broadly the same as in the last week of February.
