Irizar has delivered 31 integral buses for local service operation in Wallonia, the manufacturer’s first batch of vehicles for public transport in Belgium.

Twenty-six Irizar i4s have been acquired by OTW (Operateur de Transport de Wallonie) and will operate on intercity routes from September and be based at the TEC depots in Brabant Wallon, Namur and Hainaut. The sale agreement includes an eight-year repair and maintenance service contract.

OTW said that the total cost of operation (TCO) of the coaches, as well as the ability of Irizar to customise and deliver on time were decisive in choosing Irizar solutions and services.
In a second order, a further five vehicles are being delivered to Keolis Belgium, meaning that 31 Irizar buses that will be hitting the roads of Wallonia in just a few weeks. Of these, 12 are two-axle 12.2m coaches and 19 are tri-axle, 15m coaches, all fitted with passenger detection infra-red sensors at the central door and a passenger video surveillance and counting system.

Available in lengths from 9.4m to 15m and in a range of finishes and floor heights (H, M and L), the new i4 is available in both an integral version, with a DAF combustion engine, a hybrid version using a Cummins engine with Eaton hybrid package, or
on Scania chassis in CNG or LNG form.
