A consultation has been launched seeking views on the proposed increase of fees paid for driving tests, vehicle tests and other services provided by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), including theory and practical driving tests for learner drivers and approved driving instructors, vehicle tests for roadworthiness and certification and MOT services. The fees paid are used to fund the DVSA’s services, and are set at a level the DVSA says allows it to break even without additional taxpayer support. The proposed increases of around 1.5% will allow it to cover the costs of previous investments to improve its services, the DVSA said.
Under the proposals, car and motorcycle theory tests would increase by 40p to £23.40, with car driving tests increasing to £62.90 and £76.10 for normal and out of hours tests (currently £62 and £75 respectively). A HGV driving test would increase by £1.70 to £116.70. MOT tests for buses or coaches of 23 or more passengers will increase from £128 to £129.90. The consultation runs until 2359hrs on 2 September.
