Gemma and husband Jake raised under £9,000 for charity in memory of daughter Penelope.

Hi all,

I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated and supported mine and my husband’s marathon run. Along with my husband Jake, I took on the London Marathon last Sunday and so far we have raised just shy of £9,000 for a charity incredibly close to our hearts in memory of our daughter. I can proudly say, ‘I am a london marathon finisher!’ My husband didn’t leave my side (despite being a lot fitter than I am) and we finished the marathon in 6 hours 23 minutes, which I am incredibly proud of!

For the first half of the marathon, I felt amazing, but on mile 15 I was quickly humbled by the back injury I picked up during training, and my back totally gave out. Luckily, a few miles later an incredibly kind lady gave me some Ibuprofen, and I was able to finish in style with our seven-month son waiting for us in the stands. Instead of our names printed on our marathon t-shirts we had our daughter’s name, and the crowd cheered her name hundreds of times “come on Penelope,” and I don’t think my eyes were dry the whole way round. It was a truly magnificent experience, and one I will never forget. I have included the QR code here, should any of you still wish to donate. Again, a huge thank you to each person who has donated, it means more than you know.

Love Gemma xx

…well done to Gemma (and Jake!) from all of us here at CBW, a huge congratulations and a big thank you to those of you, readers, advertisers, suppliers and industry contacts, who donated to help Gemma reach her goal.
