Jonathan Welch looks at the latest version of the Neoplan Tourliner in its 13.4m tri-axle form and fitted with MAN’s OptiView mirrorless system
It’s not that long since we last looked at a Neoplan Tourliner; indeed, it was only at the end of 2021 that Richard Sharman visited MAN’s Trafford Park site to have a look at the first PSVAR-ready Tourliner in the UK. ‘With a fully loaded specification and long warranty, the Tourliner needs to be on your list if you are looking for a coach that can do it all’ was Richard’s conclusion back then, and having had the chance to get behind the wheel of the very latest version in its stylish platinum livery, I can’t disagree.
The major and most obvious new feature on the latest arrivals (a two-axle P10 which was displayed at the UK Coach Rally in Blackpool and already sold to Go Goodwins, and the tri-axle P20 version which is the subject of our test drive) is the MAN OptiView mirrorless system. Believed to be a first on a UK touring coach the system is quickly becoming common in the HGV sector so it was only a matter of time before we saw it on a coach. MAN Senior Coach Sales Executive Matt Jacob explained that although MAN has had its eye on the technology for a while, it could also see that the technology was improving all the time and decided to wait before making the leap. Now that it feels the technology has reached the level of quality and reliability as befits a Neoplan product, the manufacturer is now seeking feedback from operators to allow it to carry out any fine-tuning.
