A quick polish: KNV 337 made the journey from Yorkshire to the Lincolnshire museum. DI FORBES

Although she spends her days managing Network Bus & Truck Parts, Di Forbes also enjoys classic vehicles in her spare time, and reports on a classic bus trip to the Lincolnshire Road Transport Museum

Travelling through the countryside, much in the way that KNV 337 would have done 70 years ago when she was brand spanking new off the Bristol production line, our journey took around three hours to complete. We were travelling from Halifax on a bright red Bristol K, so the trip was sedate, but the company was good and the destination full of promise, even if it was an early start!

Our destination was the Lincolnshire Road Transport Museum, where we were warmly welcomed by Gary Nolan and the very friendly bus-and-car painted on the roller shutter doors. The Lincolnshire Road Transport Museum has several open days, some featuring its fleet of cars, whilst others, like the 27 October event that we were attending, are ‘Special Running Days’ featuring the fabulous vintage buses homed at the museum and others that, like us, have travelled to visit for the day. It’s a family friendly hive of activity, with lots of splendid exhibits, and very helpful volunteers ready to answer any and all questions.

Entry is free. There is the usual museum guide giving information about the vehicles, but what’s not so normal is the museum has no fixed price, and simply asks for a donation. The place was full of people of all ages, and in true museum style there’s a walk-way guiding visitors around; it’s full

to the brim with vintage and classic motors, displays and a coffee shop too.

Using the walk-way its possible to experience many of the exhibits that include a working sectioned mini engine; at one point, whilst drinking a particularly good cup of coffee, I witnessed a volunteer answering questions from a family with three children about how the engine worked, and they spent a good while in conversation, learning at the same time.
