Alan Payling pays a visit to the heartlands of Devon at South Molton and finds that the place is not just busy, it’s buzzing

Ah, Devon. What a lovely place. So much so that throughout the year coaches pour down the M5 by the convoy. No surprise there given that there’s so much to choose from that appeals to coach passengers. There’s the mild climate to start with. There are two fabulous coastlines to choose from and two wild, scenic moors. There are beautiful resorts aplenty with a choice of two major cities, one with a naval dockyard with more sailors than you can shake a cat o’nine tails at. There’s a lovely selection of villages and towns to visit and some fabulous attractions that includes train rides, boat rides, markets, entertainment and cream teas galore.
