The Spanish company remains family-owned and has grown to become a small multinational. MOVENTIS

How does a family-owned business tackle the challenges of starting a new bus operation on another continent, taking into account significant local cultural and religious differences? Jonathan Welch speaks to Moventis CEO Josep Maria Martí to find out

Moventis is a name which readers in the UK might not have heard before, but it is one which is constantly spreading its reach across Europe and beyond. The company is one of two brands belonging to Spanish company Moventia, which is active in many sectors of land transport. Sister company Movento specialises in private mobility, including car and motorcycle dealerships, whilst Moventis is the public mobility division which is expanding its reach in the international arena.

Why is a company which is active overseas important to CBW readers, you might ask, but it’s always important to keep an eye on what’s going on beyond the shores of the UK, to see how things might be done differently. So who, or what, is Moventis? Parent company Moventia celebrated its centenary year in 2023, and since its founding in 1923 has grown to become a multinational family company. With a long history behind it, it has positioned itself as a forward-looking company, seeking to anticipate new trends and move with the times to offer a range of essential public transport and mobility solutions.
