Following its divestment from Dutch-owned Abellio, the former Abellio London has become Transport UK London Bus, formally changing its name from 2 March. The business says it is excited to start its next business chapter.
In February last year, the Transport UK Group Ltd completed a management buyout from Abellio owner, Dutch rail company Nederlandse Spoorwegen, which paved the way for the UK-based company to take over Abellio UK’s existing services, including the London Bus business.
As the Transport UK London Bus brand is introduced, it will remain business as usual for the operator. Buses are currently being rebranded with the new Transport UK logos, and there is a change programme underway to extend the new branding across the business. Plans are also in place to update depot signage, letterheads, the existing website and social media channels. The company is consulting employees on uniform updates, which will be rolled out in 2025.
Transport UK London bus operates 59 routes on behalf of Transport for London, accounting for around 11% of London buses, from six depots. 78% of its fleet is now electric or hybrid, and all of its London depots are enabled for electric buses, making it the first London operator to achieve this.
Jon Eardley, Managing Director of Transport UK London Bus, said: “We are truly excited to enter 2024 under our new name and proud to be part of the British-owned and managed Transport UK Group. As we roll out the brand over the coming months, it is business as usual as we continue to expand our state-of-the-art fleet and grow the number of routes we operate.”
Chief Executive Officer Dominic Booth added: “It’s fantastic to see the newly branded Transport UK buses hitting London’s streets as we continue to invest in clean air for the communities we serve across the capital. We are committed to offering a better journey experience for all our passengers as we press ahead with electrifying our fleet as well.”
