Funding for a project to build a new hybrid fuel-cell double-decker bus has been awarded to a partnership between Arcola Energy, Alexander Dennis Ltd (ADL) and Warwick Manufacturing Group.

The £150,000 of funding from the Niche Vehicle Network (NVT), which is supported by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles and Innovate UK, was part of a wider £2.3m of funding announced at this year’s Cenex Low Carbon Vehicle Event in September. The funding was split between 11 projects in total, including the manufacture of a hybrid driveline system for vehicles with manual gearboxes and the creation of a “smart” low carbon powertrain and connected vehicle technology

The team constructing the hybrid fuel cell double-decker proof-of-concept vehicle will aim to produce a zero operational emission vehicle with the necessary performance for urban and extra-urban bus services.
