Transport Museum Wythall says it is pleased to announce that Alan Dedicoat, the familiar voice of TV show Strictly Come Dancing and the National Lottery results, has agreed to become a Patron of the charity. Known from his voiceovers as ‘The Voice of God,’
Alan was born in Hollywood, a village next to Wythall in the West Midlands, and has fond memories of spending his childhood years travelling on Midland Red bus services. Living outside the Birmingham City boundary, Alan had no choice, with Midland Red providing family travel. He went on to be educated at King Edward VI Camp Hill school and Birmingham University.
Opting for the world of show business, Alan has spent most of his working life in radio, famously sharing banter with Sir Terry Wogan on his ‘Wake up to Wogan’ morning show, but it is for his role as the ‘out-of-vision’ voice, announcing the contestants on Strictly Come Dancing and calling out the Lottery numbers that Alan is famous, and he still puts his voice to use at a variety of events, both with live appearances and specialist recordings, which he does in his home recording studio. Alan also has a personal interest in buses having joined his friend, radio presenter Ken Bruce, and three others in purchasing and running six London Routemaster buses to the benefit of many charities over a number of years.
Alan was guest of honour at the museum’s Midland Red 120 event in 2024 when a special Hollywood circular service was created for the day on which Alan proved to be a very competent conductor.
“We look forward to working with Alan and his voice to further raise the profile of Transport Museum Wythall as one of Britain’s premier transport-related family attractions,” the museum said.
