Nottingham City Transport’s veteran Managing Director, Mark Fowles, speaks to James Day about his successful career and how he maintains award-winning standards at the company

One of the highlights of Nottingham City Transport’s (NCT) successful showing at the 2019 UK Bus Awards was the award for services to the industry being handed to Mark Fowles, the company’s Managing Director. After a varied and interesting career prior to joining NCT, Mark has spent 26 years with the operator now.

Mark said he was ‘absolutely gobsmacked’ to be given the award: “I’d just come back from having a photograph taken and was doing something on my phone when the table stood up and started applauding. I joined in, but they said it was for me.

“I was absolutely flummoxed by it – I didn’t think I’d done that much in the industry, but it’s those little bits you do which become part of the norm which I’d been recognised for. I was extremely pleased and flattered.”
