Cyril Kenzie behind the wheel of ‘JBY’, his Duple-bodied Bedford OB at the last Showbus at Duxford in 2014. DAVID BELL

Few have had a career in coaching as long or as rich in experience as Cyril Kenzie who takes time to reflect on his eight decades in the industry with Andy Izatt

In the coaching community and beyond there aren’t many who are held in such high regard as Cyril Kenzie. This quietly spoken, thoughtful, engaging Cambridgeshire man has reached out to so many people and achieved so much in his extraordinarily long career.

Given that Cyril is now in his early 90s, it perhaps came as little surprise to some when news broke in late summer that Kenzie’s Coaches of Shepreth was closing. After all, this is someone who is more than a quarter of a century past normal retirement age, but those who understand his enduring enthusiasm and work ethic would know he would want to remain busy and be planning for the future. That’s exactly what I found when I visited him at the end of October.
