Go-Ahead Group-owned operator wins the top accolade for the second year running, with Nottingham City Transport named Top City Operator and Ensignbus Top Independent Operator. James Day reports from the ceremony

With Troxy in East London hosting around 650 high level attendees from bus operators across the UK on 20 November, the UK Bus Awards continues to be a major event in the industry calendar.
The ceremony was opened by Jamie Cash, who announced that the event’s charity partner for the year would be Alzheimer Scotland and Alzheimer’s Society. A prize draw was held which raised over £5,000 for the charities.
Compère of the event was once again Jane Hill from the BBC, who has fulfilled the role for the last eight years. She highlighted a number of positive viral news stories involving bus drivers throughout the year, including the famous footage of Lothian driver Sharmaine Laurie skillfully avoiding a stranded car during ‘The Beast from the East’ at the end of February.
