Operator makes offer for free travel through social media to help local people through the poor weather
Staff from respected Kent coach operator Bayliss Executive Travel offered to assist those in need during last week’s cold snap by transporting them to medical appointments and helping them obtain medication.
Rob Marriott, Operations Manager at the Deal-based firm, told CBW: “In weather like this, schools cancel their trips and sports events, which we’re also heavily into. Therefore, we have spare resources at hand. Our water is frozen and at any rate, it’s not safe to wash vehicles, so our staff have been delighted to help the local community.
“Alistair, our MD, had a minor operation last week, so he’s been recovering at home. He knows how dull and frustrating being housebound can be – it was his suggestion that we assist those in the greatest need.”
The offer was made via social media platform Facebook with the following message: “Due to this ridiculous weather and work being cancelled left right and centre, we have lots of staff free at Bayliss Executive Travel over the next couple of days. If you are elderly and in need of any help at all, please call Rob on 01304 363600 and let our office know. We will despatch a staff member to help absolutely free of charge, whether that be to take you to the doctors or a necessary shopping trip, we want to help. This isn’t a gimmick, this is a genuine offer unanimously agreed to by our staff, our boys and girls want to help! Stay safe everyone.”
Asked whether anyone had taken up the firm’s kind offer, Rob replied: “We’ve got two 4×4 vehicles here. We’ve taken someone to the Post Office and another person to obtain medication they needed from a pharmacy. Another needed to go to hospital.”
