Vintage bus route 12 will run from Bournemouth Travel Interchange via the town’s pier to Hengistbury Head, with five journeys a day from 22 July to 26 August. Fares are from £2 for adults and £1 children.

Bear Cross is run by accountant Nick Jackson who has ‘always loved buses.’ He bought the former Bournemouth Corporation Weymann-bodied Leyland, KEL133, a couple of years ago.

“I did a lot of work on it and, never believing that preserved buses should just sit around, decided to set up in service,” said Nick. “I was happy how it went last year – the bus never missed a beat.”

Nick also owns two other Weymann-bodied Bournemouth buses, Daimler Fleetline CRU184C from 1965, which he hopes will be used on the service in 2019 and 8154EL, a 1960 Leyland PD3/1.

Just purchased is new to Royal Blue 1970 ECW-bodied Bristol RELH, RDV433H, which Nick intends to make available for private hire and hopes to increase his operating discs from two to three. Bear Cross is named after the area of Bournemouth where Nick was brought up.
