As was widely reported via social media, a double-decker bus caught fire in Blackburn bus station on 7 May. The bus was Transdev’s R100 TDV, seen in this image by Chris Newton whilst leaving Blackburn bus station on 4 May 2019. It is reported that although the bus was severely damaged, nobody was hurt and staff managed to move buses that were parked nearby to safety. The bus was originally YJ04 LYG, fleet number 401, and was originally allocated to the company’s well-known Coastliner operation. When pictured, the bus had been repainted into a red and cream livery marking 100 years since Ribble, one of Transdev’s predecessors, began operating buses in 1919, hence the registration and new fleet number 100.
