The National Final of the UK Bus Driver of the Year (BDoY) Competition will take place in Blackpool on Sunday, September 6, and entries have already been invited from operators large and small who have previously put their drivers forward.
Joe Mackie, Chairman of the UK Bus Driver of the Year Association, which organises the competition, said that the 2015 national final marks 49 years of BDoY, which was first run in 1967 as a local contest in Coventry and subsequently grew into a national event. He added that plans were now being made for the BDoY half-century next year.
Last year’s overall winner, and Bus Driver of the Year 2014, was Jonathan Welch from First Aberdeen. He was up against 118 other drivers employed by all the major bus groups, municipal operators and smaller companies.
Joe Mackie said: “We are particularly keen to have more entries from the municipal and independent sectors of the industry as they are under-represented at the moment.
“The National Final is a fantastic place for operators of all sizes to showcase their drivers’ skills and especially their commitment to excellent customer service.”
Bus companies which would like to become involved, or simply wish to find out more, are invited to contact the Competition Secretary on 01303 251462 or email [email protected]. A poster for operators can be downloaded from www.ukbdoy.co.uk to encourage their drivers to enter.
