Well known heritage operator Timebus is launching its own special tour of London from May.

The Timebus Tourer, normally using an open-top AEC Routemaster, will feature a Blue Badge Guide giving a live commentary. Not only that, but passengers will have the chance to visit buildings and other attractions on foot during the trip.

The tour, available on weekdays until the end of September, is three hours in all, and passengers can normally be picked up and returned to a central London location of their choice. There’s the choice of morning trip from 0930hrs to 1300hrs or 1400hrs to 1730hrs in the afternoon. Everything from Marble Arch to Whitechapel is on the agenda and Timebus can organise bespoke tours if required.

Timebus Development Manager Ewen Pring said: “The idea is to provide a unique tour package and giving people the chance to be shown around buildings and attractions on foot breaks the journey and provides a more personal experience of London’s sights.”

St Albans-based Timebus was set up in 1987 by Ewen’s father, David, and at one point ran Routemasters on service in Watford. Today the operator has a fleet of 14 heritage vehicles including Routemasters and an AEC Regal IV RF-type. Members of the fleet can be hired for everything from exhibitions to funerals.

Under restoration is a rare 1949 Leyland Tiger PS1-based London TD-type single-decker with Mann Egerton bodywork, one of 131 members of the class delivered between 1947 and 1949. There are four survivors. It’s hoped work will be completed by the end of this year.
