In last week’s issue, Nick Larkin reported from the 2023 Fenland BusFest. This week, he continues his look at some of the vehicles on display
As we discovered in last week’s issue, a sunny Sunday in May saw some 40 buses and coaches dating from 1932 to 2023 line the streets of Whittlesey in Cambridgeshire for the annual Busfest event, with some giving rides around the Fens. This week, it’s the turn of the double-deckers to take the spotlight, including open-top 1956 MCW-bodied Leyland PD2 LRV 992, new to Portsmouth and now owned by Nathan Merryweather and Xav Paine of Viscount Travel in North Yorkshire. More modern was A2B Travel’s AU53 HKD, a 2003 Transbus-bodied Volvo B7TL new to First Eastern Counties and former Western National Bristol VRT/ECW VDV 134S, new in 1977.
