In March 2013, Buxton’s ‘little tram’ began to offer regular tours around the town and quickly became a local attraction, but its operators say that due to ongoing and costly maintenance issues, the environmentally-friendly electric minibus had become increasingly difficult to keep on the road and unable to offer a consistent service, and as such made the decision to withdraw the route.
“There is no doubt that it will be missed but, on a positive note, motorists, who were stuck behind it as it made its very slow journey up Terrace Road and Manchester Road, will once more have the roads freed from a 4mph milk float with a heavy load,” said its operators Discover Buxton.
The tram has been sold to a new home in the south of England where it is hoped that the vehicle will be restored to working order.
