Caledonian Travel has unveiled a new livery as part of a campaign to highlight the green credentials of coach holidays. To promote its new ‘Go Green…Go Caledonian’ campaign, the coach holiday specialist has given one its coaches a makeover, replacing the red rampant lion which has adorned its coaches for over 30 years with a new green look.

At a time when people are looking to make better eco-friendly choices to reduce their carbon footprint, Caledonian Travel wants to remind people that coach travel is recognised as the most sustainable mode of transport for holiday choices, and that it will play a key role as the UK aims to reach its net zero target by 2050. The firm pointed out that average carbon dioxide emissions per coach passenger per journey are six times lower than car travel, five times lower than air and around 1.5 times lower than rail.

Commercial Director at Caledonian Travel Martin Lock said: “We’re excited to unveil our new green livery as part of our “Go Green…Go Caledonian” campaign, which aims to promote coach travel as one of the greenest ways to holiday.

“When choosing their next holiday, people naturally assume that a holiday to Europe involves flying while staying in the UK and Ireland means a self-drive to their destination. Coach holidays are all too often overlooked when in fact they offer the most sustainable option, and are a simple step people can make to reduce their carbon footprint while making a positive contribution to the planet by reducing emissions and congestion on the road.

“If people swap their private vehicles for a coach which can transport over 40 people it’s easy to see how much more efficient coach holidays are. At Caledonian Travel we’re committed to promoting the eco-friendly benefits of coach travel and lowering our environmental impact by continually upgrading the coaches we use with the cleanest and most efficient vehicles available, fitted with modern, Euro VI fuel efficient engines which emit reduced levels of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.”

Martin believes the sustainable benefit of coach travel is helping to change perceptions of coach holidays and broaden their appeal to new younger customers, resulting in operators offering a more varied choice of breaks and holidays targeting a wider market. The company has responded with an expanding product range which includes family fun breaks to theme parks and attractions like Alton Towers, Legoland Windsor and Chester Zoo plus box office breaks to the theatre shows such as Frozen and concerts to see acts including Little Mix and Justin Bieber.

The firm offers trips to a range of special events too, including Chelsea Flower Show, Cosford Air Show and major sports events such as the Grand National and the British F1 Grand Prix.

Martin added: “By offering great value packages that cater for all tastes and ages, we’re helping to make coach holidays and sustainable travel an attractive and viable choice for everyone. People’s preconceptions about coach holidays are slowly changing and if we, as an industry, can educate people about the green credentials of coach travel and encourage them to consider switching to coach holidays we can make a small but real difference to our planet and its future.”
