A Leicester depot could be put to use as a museum, but locals fear it could be demolished, reports Nick Larkin
A preservation group has launched an appeal to save a 1904-built former tram and bus garage. St James depot was used by First Northampton until its demise 10 years ago, and after a short period of use for vehicle storage has lain empty ever since.
The building was bought ‘for expansion’ by shoe manufacturer Church but this has not gone ahead, and now the site has been sold. Agents for the sale Chelton Brown declined to name the purchaser but confirmed to CBW that it was ‘an international company.’ The future of the building, which was on offer for £3.2 million, remains uncertain.
