Employees at Cardiff Bus raised £8,037 to help find a cure for a disease which has affected the lives of a number of colleagues’ families

Employees at Cardiff Bus have raised over £8,000 for the company’s charity of the year, the MND Association, after a year of fundraising activities. The Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan operator dedicated a year of support to the charity after it was nominated by staff, and succeeded in raising £8,037 by hosting a variety of activities including monthly dress down days, raffles, coffee mornings and a sponsored walk. The money will go to the MND Association, a charity focussed on improving access to care, research and campaigning for those affected by motor neurone disease, and will help train association visitors to give support to those living with the illness, as well as funding and promoting research on new treatments with the hope of one day curing MND altogether.

Human Resources Director at Cardiff Bus Jen Doody said: “Tallying up this year’s donations and looking back at the efforts our team has put in over the last 12 months to raise vital funds for such a worthy charity is indeed a proud moment for Cardiff Bus. We have a number of staff within the company who have personal experience of this disease and understand how passionate they are about funding support and helping to research more effective treatments.

“With so many family members and friends affected by MND here at Cardiff Bus, it only felt right that we chose them as our Charity of the Year. We’re extremely proud of the fundraising efforts of our team and hope this donation will bring a cure that much closer.”

Kate Byron, a volunteer at the MND Association, said: “We were absolutely thrilled to be chosen as Cardiff Bus’ charity of the year. We can’t believe how much has been raised and would like to thank the whole team for everything they have done to raise this phenomenal amount. This will make a huge difference to people living with Motor Neurone Disease in the Cardiff and Vale area. Thank you!”
