Hong Kong operator Citybus recently joined in celebrations to mark the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, organising a parade of buses and exhibition, showing vehicles past and present. The event, on 19 October in Hong Kong’s Victoria Park, was one of the highlight events held by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government to celebrate Hong Kong’s National Day.
“Being one of the major franchised bus operators in Hong Kong, we are honoured to co-organise this event,” Citybus said. “Four of our buses, including the celebration-themed open-top bus, the retro bus replicating the classic ‘Big-eater’ livery, our hydrogen double-deck bus, and the electric double-deck bus with new livery joined the parade along the busiest streets of Hong Kong Island, and attracted the attention of over a thousand people along the route.
”To show the evolution of franchised buses serving Hong Kong Island in the past decades, we also showcased valuable buses in the exhibition, including our newly restored bus, Leyland Olympian 178, the classic Citybus in the 1990s, as well as our hydrogen double-deck bus, which is also the first-ever hydrogen vehicle in Hong Kong. Visitors, including many dedicated supporters of public transport, were excited to meet these buses again.
”It was a truly rewarding experience for all the participants, the elderly looking for memories or the youngsters learning about the history of buses. We sincerely hope that these precious restored buses will have more opportunities to meet the public, and we also look forward to the future when these buses can be filled with customers again and travel around Hong Kong as tourist attractions.”
