Classic coaches and buses mix with new metal at Glastonbury 2022

Bristol VRTs and Duple coaches were just some of the vintage vehicles that the festival goers could sample alongside more modern counterparts. Richard Sharman takes a look at the coaching operations

Just 25 miles from Bristol city centre lies the Somerset town of Pilton, and probably the most well-known farm in the UK (if you don’t include Jeremy Clarkson’s Amazon Prime-famous Diddly Squat Farm): Worthy Farm.

Glastonbury Festival has been running yearly since 1970, except for fallow years, where the ground is left to recover, this happens around every five years – but I digress, this is not a farming magazine! The last festival was in 2019, so demand for this year’s event has been huge, especially as many people had purchased tickets for 2020, which like the 2021 event, was cancelled due to the pandemic.

The festival is held over five days, and given that 200,000 people attend this event, the bus is the main form of transport. To that end, multiple routes are provided by the festival organisers, with commercial routes also being provided by National Express.
