By far the most legendary Southdown buses are the Northern Counties-bodied Leyland PD3 ‘Queen Marys,’ of which some 300 entered service between 1957 and 1967. Thirty Southdown Queen Marys were delivered as convertible open toppers, including 409 DCD, still owned by Stagecoach South and seen arriving in Chichester after dark.
