HONG KONG Hong Kong operator CLP has launched the first of four next-generation Alexander Dennis Enviro500EV zero-emission double-deck buses. The utility company operates a small fleet of buses to provide transport services for employees commuting to and from its power stations, and will use the four battery-electric Enviro500EVs to replace existing Euro IV diesel-powered Enviro500 buses, supporting the Hong Kong Government’s goal to achieve zero vehicular emissions and carbon neutrality before 2050.

CLP is the third Hong Kong bus company to operate the next-generation Enviro500EV. Its new buses carry a white livery with green leaves and a ‘Pure Electric, Zero Emission’ logo. They use LED lighting, and all passenger seats are equipped with seatbelt fastened detectors. The integral double-decker utilises the heavy-duty variant of the Voith Electrical Drive System to cater for the duty cycles and topographical challenges of Hong Kong, powered by 472kWh batteries.

Head of Commercial Finance (Asia Pacific) for Alexander Dennis Michael Pothan attended the launch and said: “This latest delivery of Alexander Dennis Enviro500EV confirms our next-generation double-decker as a favourite for Hong Kong’s operating conditions, and introduces it to the private bus sector for the first time. CLP will benefit from its uncompromising design which is driving value through its focus on efficiency and longevity, while staff will enjoy smooth journeys to and from work.”
