Bus operators welcomed Cornwall County Council’s decision to hold an open meeting about possible cuts to concessionary fares reimbursement last week.

County Hall were due to host a public meeting last Friday (August 19) after councillors convinced scrutiny committee chair Fred Greenslade to open the meeting to the public and press.

Mark Howarth, managing director of Western Greyhound, said it was the right decision. “The proposed reduction in concessionary fares reimbursement to bus operators affects every single route.”

Mark added: “Officers at the council have been holding urgent meetings with bus operators over the past few days to discover the extent of the impact. We’ve provided an extensive list of routes that will become unprofitable if the reimbursement is cut.”
