In response to the election result, Graham Vidler, Confederation of Passenger Transport’s Chief Executive commented: “I congratulate Boris Johnson on his election victory and look forward to working with him and his government to deliver policies that will encourage more people to take the bus or use a coach.
“The campaign is now over and the serious work of government must begin. Before the election the Prime Minister put bus at the heart of his transport policy and we need to see this continue. This includes putting the coach and bus first in transport networks in towns and cities, an immigration system which ensures operators can employ the people needed to drive and maintain vehicles and delivering the much promised national bus strategy and long term funding settlement for the industry.
“The UK is rightly wanting to be seen as a world leader on tackling climate change and introducing policies that encourage people out of their cars and onto a bus or coach will help reduce the UK’s carbon footprint and achieve our net zero targets.”
