This event will feature the incredible one-off massive Daimler Fleetline with 86-seat Northern Counties body, XDH56G, which was new to Walsall Corporation.

Also being shown for the first time since major work has been completed is another Cummins V8-powered vehicle, NJW719E, a Daimler Roadliner with Strachans B53D bodywork, also new to Walsall Corporation. “Bring your earplugs,” said museum Press Officer Denis Chick. “We are delighted to be able to display these vehicles together and are grateful to Cummins for supporting the event.”

In contrast, there will also be a hybrid-powered ADL double decker with a Cummins clean diesel engine. The exhibits will also include Cummins electric battery technology for zero-emission buses and the Darlington-built successor to the V6 – the latest B6.7 engine meeting Euro 6 emission regulations.

Cummins was formed in 1919 when Clessie Lyle Cummins, who allegedly built his first steam engine at the age of 11, set up the company in Columbus, Ohio, with the financial support of banker William G Irwin. Success was rapid, and the company opened its Scottish factory, the first outside the US, in 1956. The present Darlington, County Durham, facility came in 1965.

WMPTE was formed on 1 October 1969 as an amalgam of the municipal fleets of Birmingham, Walsall, Wolverhampton and West Bromwich. The Coventry fleet and the West Midlands County operations of Midland Red were not absorbed into the PTE until 1974.

WMPTE 50 will include bus displays, free rides and many other attractions.
