BELGIUM Flemish public transport company De Lijn is ordering 290 electric buses, Flemish Minister of Mobility Annick De Ridder has announced, representing an investment of €185 million and moving the operator further towards its ambition to offer completely emission-free public transport by 2035. Around 50 buses from the order will be made at the VDL Bus & Coach factory in Roeselare, Belgium. These will be 18-metre articulated vehicles, and will be accompanied by 100 more articulated e-buses from Iveco Bus, which will be built in France. There will also be 140 12-metre e-buses from Chinese company BYD, which will be built at its plant in Hungary.
The first buses are scheduled to be delivered from the end of next year, and add to the 230 e-buses that are currently being delivered; an additional order for more is expected later this year.
