Long-awaited facility provides 50 spaces between 0700 and 1900hrs in Irish capital

Dublin Docklands’ new 50-space coach park finally opened on Monday (January 22). Developed by the National Transport Authority, the much-needed facility should provide welcome off-street parking for visiting coach drivers.

The 3.7-acre coach park has been constructed on disused railway land, and incorporates a single-storey, 72 square metre portable building housing a kitchen and WC. Ancillary lighting, fencing and CCTV are all present, along with a dedicated security office. Hours of operation are 0700 to 1900hrs – there is currently no overnight parking and all vehicles must exit by closing time. For drivers wishing to leave their coach and explore the city, the site is conveniently located next to Luas Docklands station.

Planning permission for the site was granted back in November 2015, after a previous attempt was refused by Dublin City Council the previous year.

However, appeals against the decision put the plans on hold until June 2016 (CBW1244).

Access to the park, which should be entered with no passengers on-board, is from Spencer Dock on the North Quay. Coming up from The Point Depot, drivers should turn right at the PWC building – alternatively, coming from Eden Quay, drive by the Dublin Convention Centre, by the PWC building and turn left. Drive up the narrow street with the PWC building on your left hand side. Drive through the Crossroads – the entrance to the coach park is on your right hand side, there is an entry and an exit lane.

There is a height restriction frame similar to building sites for clearance of 4.5 metres. Continue under the bridge and swing left – there are 10 bays backing onto the road and a further 40 around the corner.

There is a prefab building. On entry, there is a security office to your left, two toilets in front of you and a kitchen to your right. The kitchen will have a microwave, kettle, fridge, dishwasher and sink.

There is WC drop and no hose – drivers are asked to respect the rule of not washing their coaches on site. To use the facility, full payment must be made in advance by text. Rates are €10 for up to three hours and €15 for over three hours.
