A new city centre shuttle service has been launched in Hereford to help people to access the city’s amenities from transport hubs

The town of Hereford has launched a new city centre circular service, branded the Zipper, using a fleet of three Yutong E9 electric buses. The service has been made possible by Stronger Towns funding, and the vehicles will be operated by Yeomans Travel, operating at intervals of up to every 15 minutes Mondays to Saturdays and half-hourly on Sundays.

The aim of the new route is to offer a convenient service from the main transport hubs into the centre of the town, giving residents and visitors an alternative to using their cars. The project will also create an electric bus charging facility and depot to facilitate electrification of further bus fleets in the future.

“It was great see the launch of the Hereford Zipper buses today,” said Ian Downie of Pelican Bus & Coach, which supplied the buses. “Pelican is delighted to have supplied these three Yutong E9 zero-emission, fully-electric buses to Hereford City Council to create a greener, more accessible Hereford.”

The three free buses celebrate Herefordshire’s heritage. Each bus has been named after Herefordshire products, and features an interior to match; named Handsome Norman (cider apples), Green Horse (Perry pears) and Pilot (hops), the seats have been upholstered in bespoke printed fabric from Camira featuring each product on its respective bus. “They look absolutely fantastic,” added Ian.
