Edinburgh Airport is jacking up its charges for coaches to drop off and pick up by up to a staggering 80%
In addition to the fees, the timebands are also changing, leading to a double hammer blow for coach operators. The revised charging structure took effect on Monday, February 13. Giving his reaction, George Mair, Director, CPT Scotland told CBW: “We were extremely disappointed to learn at very short notice, of Edinburgh Airport’s proposed changes for picking up and dropping off at the coach stands.
“The cost increases by up to 80% – which has to be very questionable when inflation is low. We’ve held lengthy discussions with the airport and hope they’ll review proposals, both in terms of the timeframe for introducing them and the fees themselves.”
Asked by CBW for the reasons behind the changes, a spokesperson for Edinburgh Airport replied: “As we raised with CPT earlier this month – and in the ongoing discussions seeking an equitable solution – our coach park operates close to capacity, and the new tariff bands have been designed to encourage reduced waiting time. These bands will incentivise a smooth flow of vehicles in and out of the coach park without causing unnecessary frustrating traffic queues, which can cause additional fuel burn and emissions from vehicles.”
