Another well-known coaching name has closed its doors in the face of difficult operating conditions
Telford-based Elcock Reisen, which has depots in Telford and Bridgnorth has gone into administration. The company announced the fact via its social media channels on 23 August, with customers expressing worry that they would be unable to take their booked trips and not knowing if they would receive a refund. The firm said it was in the process of contacting customers. “We are contacting customers as quickly as possible however as of Friday all offices will be closed,” the statement said. “Thank you to everybody for your loyalty and valued custom over the many years we have been in business, best wishes to the future. Take care all.”
Replying to a media enquiry, a member of staff told local newspaper the Shropshire Star: “We will be speaking directly with our customers, we have nothing more to add to the statement that we put out.” However, company director Nick Prince told BBC Radio Shropshire that 32 jobs are at risk and that a combination of rising costs and falling contracts were to blame for the financial problems.
He said a takeover was underway but the potential buyer had pulled out and it wasn’t feasible for the business to carry on trading. Only last year did the company invest in new coaches, and operated a fleet of around 30 vehicles on school contracts, day trips and traditional coach holiday work.
Regarding school contracts, a spokesperson for Shropshire Council said: “Shropshire Council was made aware today that Elcock Reisen will unfortunately cease trading before the beginning of the school term in September. Elcocks has been a valued partner for a number of years, and has operated around 15 school transport contracts for some time.
“Following today’s announcement, we will now work with other bus and coach companies to cover the school transport contracts that Elcocks has been operating. We will ensure details of the new providers are confirmed before the beginning of the new school term, to provide reassurance to pupils and parents.”
