Essex’s youngest bus driver?

A teenager’s childhood dream to drive a bus has come true thanks to his hard work and dedication, reports Essex’s Echo newspaper. Part-time college student 19 years old Teddy Smith of Billericay, is thought to be Essex’s youngest qualified bus driver. Working for local operator Stephensons, he drives routes across Southend, having passed his test at the end of January.

He told the newspaper: “From as early as I can remember, I have always wanted to drive a bus myself and here I am, at just 19, doing what I love. I can remember growing up with my family in east London. They would always be taking me out on day trips on buses. Whenever we did something fun together we would get a bus and I would always look up at the drivers and imagine myself one day sitting in that seat.”
