FELIXSTOWE TRAVEL

Felixstowe Travel ceased trading on Sunday 16 March, posting a notice on its website that its offices were now unmanned and liquidators would be appointed in due course. The acquisition of a majority shareholding in the company was planned by REL Capital in December 2024, at which time REL said the business would “work closely with existing Davian and Tendring Travel businesses to strengthen the company’s presence in the East of England” and that the management team, led by Alan Braybrooke, would remain in place. However, CBW understands that the parties were ultimately unable to agree a deal.

Clarifying the position, REL’s Andy Scott told CBW: “We didn’t actually complete the purchase. Felixstowe Travel reached out to REL last year, as they were struggling financially, but were unable to agree terms with their landlord and drivers were reluctant to move to a new location, so disappointingly there was very little to save. We lent them money, and will be a creditor of the company (in liquidation).” Andy added that REL hopes to retain some of the private hire business from its depots at Tendring and Rayleigh in Essex.
